As a libertarian Trump fan, I find the president’s recent debates and interviews on national television to be very frustrating. Thankfully, President Trump appeared far more composed in the second Trump/Biden debate. This was a step in the right direction. When he allows himself to get drawn into arguments with the moderators, the public does not see him through his achievements.

This is doubly frustrating when you stand Trump’s strong accomplishments next to a list of Joe Biden’s relatively few. Trump has presided over a booming economy that includes historically low unemployment rates for Blacks, Hispanic and Asian Americans. He has stood up to China and North Korea while overseeing a significant peace settlement in the Middle East.

His economic successes will stand the test of time. Prior to the COVID pandemic, personal incomes in the United States reached a record high of $68,700 and unemployment had dropped to the lowest level in five decades. While the stock market roared back to steady gains, the numbers of Americans in poverty fell to record lows in 2019.

While Joe Biden helped write and voted for the 1994 Crime bill that caused mass incarcerations, Donald Trump signed the bi-partisan First Step Act that promotes badly needed prison reforms through alternative sentencing guidelines and programs to lower recidivism. Recent discussions of defunding the police seem reckless to me. If anything, I believe we need an increased budget for police de-escalation training.

With all these sizzling accomplishments, the president could just wave to his fans from the open door of Air Force One and leave it at that. Let Joe Biden do the talking and watch him dig hole after hole endorsing policies that would abruptly undo the gains Trump has made.
